Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage
Los Ángeles Cloud Forest Reserve is located in the northern Tilarán mountain range of Costa Rica, near the town of San Ramón, in the province of Alajuela. This private reserve protects a rare and fragile cloud forest ecosystem characterized by cool, moist conditions with frequent cloud cover at canopy level. The area spans rugged terrain with elevations around 1,150 meters (3,770 feet), creating a perfect habitat for a wide variety of flora and fauna including numerous endemic and endangered species. Visitors to Los Ángeles can expect thick moss-covered trees, epiphytes, ferns, bromeliads, and orchids that thrive in the misty environment. The reserve is a hotspot for birdwatchers, hosting species like the Resplendent Quetzal, toucans, and bellbirds. Hiking here is peaceful and immersive; trails wind through dense forest with opportunities to spot wildlife such as howler monkeys and colorful amphibians. The reserve plays an important role in regional conservation by protecting watershed areas and providing habitat connectivity. Due to its private conservation status, visitor amenities are minimal, fostering an off-the-beaten-path experience that appeals to ecotourists and naturalists. Los Ángeles Cloud Forest Reserve is a prime example of Costa Rica's commitment to preserving sensitive cloud forest areas, offering visitors rejuvenating nature walks amidst spectacular biodiversity.
