Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Kyangwali Forest Reserve is located in the Hoima District of western Uganda, near the Kyangwali refugee settlement. Covering a significant expanse of moist tropical forest, the reserve plays a critical role in regional biodiversity conservation, watershed protection, and providing habitat for numerous plant and animal species. The forest is typified by medium to tall canopy trees, diverse undergrowth, and a variety of birdlife including migratory and endemic species. Ecologically, it serves as a catchment for nearby water sources that support local communities and agriculture.
