About Arxan National Forest Park

Arxan National Forest Park is a stunning natural reserve in northern Inner Mongolia, known for its volcanic landscapes, dense forests, and diverse wildlife, offering ample opportunities for hiking, hot spring bathing, and nature photography.

Wilderness Landscape & Natural Heritage

Arxan National Forest Park is located in the Hulunbuir Prefecture of Inner Mongolia, China. The park spans approximately 3,300 square kilometers and is part of the Greater Xing'an Mountains region, characterized by volcanic remnants, dense larch and pine forests, and numerous lakes and hot springs. The unique volcanic topography includes colorful mountains, lava formations, and extinct volcanic cones, making it a rare geological site in northern China. Ecologically, the forest supports a rich array of flora and fauna, including Mongolian pine, Dahurian larch, and abundant wildlife such as Siberian roe deer, foxes, and a variety of bird species. Historically, the area has been inhabited by Mongolian herders and was developed into a national forest park to protect its fragile ecosystem and promote eco-tourism.

Outdoor recreation is diverse, with well-maintained hiking trails that wind through spectacular volcanic landscapes and old-growth forests. Visitors can enjoy guided treks to volcanic crater lakes, soak in mineral-rich hot springs, and capture dramatic vistas of the forested mountains and colorful volcanic formations. The park also features areas for winter sports like skiing and snowmobiling during the cold months. Arxan is a popular destination for nature lovers, photographers, and those seeking a peaceful retreat into a lesser-known forest park in China’s northern frontier. The combination of volcanic features, clean mountain air, and cultural uniqueness makes Arxan National Forest Park a distinguished destination within the country's protected areas.
