About International Peace Garden

The International Peace Garden is a 2,339-acre botanical park located on the border between North Dakota (USA) and Manitoba (Canada). Established in 1932, the garden was created to honor the peaceful relationship and friendship between the United States and Canada. The garden stands astride the international boundary, with portions of the park in both countries, connected by a border crossing that is open to visitors during operating hours without passport requirements. The garden's landscape features thousands of flowers, including more than 150,000 annuals planted each year, as well as extensive displays of native grasses, wildflowers, and trees. The area also includes formal flower gardens, serene water features, and sculptures that reflect themes of peace and cooperation. Visitors enjoy walking along over 6 miles of maintained pathways that wind through the gardens, scenic overlooks, and quiet picnic areas. Key landmarks include the Peace Chapel, the Friendship Fountain, and the iconic Floral Clock, one of the largest in North America. The garden is also home to natural prairie and wetland zones, providing habitat for diverse wildlife such as deer, foxes, and numerous bird species. Throughout the year, the garden hosts special events, educational programs, and seasonal displays. Outdoor enthusiasts find tranquility in the well-groomed trails and opportunities for wildlife observation, photography, and peaceful reflection. The International Peace Garden embodies cooperation and natural beauty in a peaceful outdoor setting that appeals to visitors of all ages seeking a unique international experience.
