About this landmark
Point Udall, located on the eastern tip of St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands, is famed as the easternmost point of the United States, where the first light of dawn touches American soil. This striking coastal promontory offers sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean stretching endlessly toward the horizon. The terrain consists of rugged volcanic rock formations framed by lush tropical vegetation, creating a dramatic contrast between green hillsides and vibrant blue waters. Visitors are drawn to its distinctive geological features—basalt cliffs that bear witness to ancient volcanic activity and sea caves carved by the relentless pounding of waves. The area's natural beauty is enhanced by a variety of native island plants and frequent sightings of coastal bird species, adding to its ecological interest. Beyond its natural allure, Point Udall holds cultural significance as a symbol of America’s farthest reach eastward, named in honor of Mo Udall, a respected U.S. Congressman.
