Biking the Arrowhead Trails in New River Gorge

Biking the Arrowhead Trails: A Mountain Biker’s Playground

If mountain biking had a playground, it might just be the Arrowhead Trails in the New River Gorge. Built by the dedicated hands of volunteers, these trails are a testament to the passion of the biking community and the rugged beauty of West Virginia. Spanning over 13 miles of meticulously designed singletrack, the Arrowhead Trails cater to riders of all levels, offering an exhilarating mix of flow, technical challenges, and scenic forest rides.

Located just outside of Fayetteville, the Arrowhead Trails loop through the heart of the Gorge’s dense woodlands. The system is divided into four main trails: Aero, Easy Street, Kaymoor, and Clovis, each tailored to provide a unique experience. Beginners can start on Easy Street, a gentle loop with smooth flow and manageable climbs, perfect for building confidence. More advanced riders, however, will want to tackle Kaymoor, where tight turns, rock gardens, and steep descents promise an adrenaline-fueled ride.

One of the highlights of biking the Arrowhead Trails is the seamless blend of nature and design. Built on an old Boy Scout camp property, the trails wind through forests of oak and pine, with occasional glimpses of the Gorge’s stunning cliffs and valleys. Wildlife is abundant, with deer, birds, and the occasional black bear making appearances (from a safe distance, of course).

For thrill-seekers, the Aero trail is the crown jewel. Featuring a mix of flowy descents, bermed corners, and short but punchy climbs, it’s a ride that keeps you engaged and grinning the entire way. And for those looking to test their stamina and skills, the Clovis trail offers a technical challenge with its root-laden paths and sharp switchbacks.

Whether you’re a seasoned biker looking for your next challenge or a casual rider eager to explore the New River Gorge, the Arrowhead Trails deliver. It’s more than a ride—it’s an adventure crafted for two wheels.
