A crisp morning at the Swiss National Museum sets the tone: the guide holds an iPad with names, the city yawns awake beyond Bahnhofstrasse and the Limmat River glints like a ribbon daring you to follow it. A short funicular ride lifts the group to Polyterrasse, where the air tastes of river and distant alpine snow; the first panorama frames the city, the lake and the serrated Alps beyond.

Zurich grew from a Roman vicus into a medieval trade center; Lindenhof marks the old Roman hill and Fraumünster reflects ecclesiastical power and later artistic renewal.
Lake Zurich benefits from strict Swiss water-quality standards and regulated boating; stay on designated docks and carry out waste to protect shoreline habitats.
