The bus pulls away from the cruise terminal and the coast opens: scrubby hills give way to a ribbon of river that hurries toward the sea. On arrival at the Damajagua area, the air smells of wet stone and green wood; guides hand out helmets and life vests while the river seems to dare you downstream. The day stitches together zipline runs over a thick canopy and a series of naturally formed slides and pools known locally as the Seven Falls.
