You step off the pedestrian bridge into a hum of canyon air and the high, narrow light of Zion. The Virgin River threads a cool ribbon through vertical walls of orange Navajo sandstone; boulders dressed in slick moss force a slow, deliberate pace. The guide checks everyone’s shoes, points to a ripple of fossilized shell in a sun-worn ledge, and leads the group downstream toward the shadowed slot known as Wall Street.

Participants should have steady balance, the ability to hike for several miles while wading and lifting knees over rocks, and basic cardiovascular fitness for a half-day outing.
Depth varies from ankle to chest depending on the section and recent runoff; guides will route you around deeper sections when possible.
Day hikes in the bottom-up Narrows section do not require a permit, but the park or guide will check river conditions and closures.
Older children comfortable with river walking and steady footing can do the trip, but the guide assesses group ability and the park restricts access during unsafe flows.
Tours can be canceled or rerouted for high water or storms; guides monitor forecasts and coordinate refunds or reschedules per the cancellation policy.
