Experience the thrill of sailing at Hoboken Sailing School's Summer Camp! Students will connect with the stunning Hoboken Waterfront and New York Harbor, learning essential sailing skills, water safety, and teamwork aboard J80 sailboats. About

An incredible opportunity for students to connect with the Hoboken Waterfront and explore New York Harbor by sailboat. This Summer Camp offers students access to Hudson River aboard our J80 sailboats with the aid of a Sailing Instructor. All students will be provided with a life jacket that must be worn while underway.

9A-10A - Classroom Education on land 10A - 12P - Sailing 12P - 1P - Lunch on land 1P - 3P - Sailing

Curriculum

Students will learn the following:

  1. Sailing Skills - Campers will learn about parts of the boat, tacking, jibing, rigging and derigging the boat.

  2. Water Safety - Campers will learn how to safely navigate on the Hudson River and all bodies of water, proper life jacket procedures, and what to do in emergencies

  3. Teamwork - The boat needs a minimum of 3 people to operate. Campers will learn how to operate as a team to safely and confidently sail the boat

  4. Leadership - The skipper calls the shots on the boat. Each camper will have the opportunity to rotate into the skipper position and lead the boat on a course and direct tacks and jibes.

  5. Nautical Concepts - Campers will learn boating traditions, language, and culture.

  6. STEM Education - Sailing is packed with STEM concepts. These include wind pressure, buoyancy, simple machines. Campers will conduct one STEM Module as it relates to sailing per day.
