You step off the coach into a cool, wooded gorge where water throws itself over rock—Hardraw Force announces the day with a 100-foot drop that dares you to lift your camera and listen. Later, cobbled streets in Hawes smell of baking and rind, while a distant train carves a white line across the Ribblehead Viaduct.
