You step out of the van and the air changes: quieter, dusted with scrub and pine resin, the road dropping away as a green-hued band of stone cuts across the skyline. The trail starts at a family-run farmhouse where a local lunch awaits on return; a 20-minute climb through dense vegetation brings you to the ridge where the Ming-era wall runs ragged and raw.
