Our Women of Concord tour gives insight into the women who lived in, or are connected to, this historic town, but who you may not have heard of. Women with significant contributions to the Revolutionary War, Transcendentalism, the fight to free Black people from slavery and to getting women the right to vote are highlighted, as well as those with influence on the arts, education, literature and social justice. Their accomplishments are impressive today, but even more given the restrictions placed on women during the times in which they lived.
Some of the women featured are Phoebe Bliss, Mary Moody Emerson, Susan and Ellen Garrison, Mary Merrick Brooks, Sophia Peabody Hawthorne, Louisa and May Alcott, and Elizabeth Wentworth, among others.
The tour begins at the Visitor Center and goes to The Manse, with references to The Robbins House, and ends back in Concord Center. It runs around 1.75-2 hours in length, and covers a distance of about 1.5 miles.
Reservations are required for this tour and must be booked 24 hours prior for staffing purposes. Please call or email for private tour information.
