Boards creak softly as an electric boat slips from the dock and the cold air pushes against your cheeks—Amsterdam’s canals dare you to slow down. Wrapped in a fluffy blanket with steam rising from a cup of mulled wine, you drift past row houses whose gables lean toward the water like quiet neighbors. The city’s winter light is low and honest, turning brick and ironwork into high-contrast detail.
