Local insights

Wildlife

History

The downtown routes pass land long used as meeting and trading places by Anishinaabe, Cree and Métis peoples; later the Forks became central to the fur trade and urban growth.

Conservation

Stick to sidewalks and marked paths, pack out any trash, and avoid feeding wildlife — urban habitats around the rivers are sensitive and benefit from respectful visitors.
