About

Tasmania has an abundance of fine food, wines, beers, ciders, berry fruits and cheeses. If you are looking for something to do in Launceston, the Tamar Valley wineries and vineyards offer a diverse range of cellar door wine tastings and sales all within a few hours drive of Launceston.

The seductive Tamar River meanders for around 70 kilometres through the fertile Tamar Valley with vineyards, orchards, pastures and forests, from the boutique-chic regional city of Launceston, and then north to the turquoise sea of Bass Strait. Fall in love with the Tamar Valley’s easy charm and quaint accommodation. From sweeping views of rolling hills to the crisp white sands of the Bass Strait, the Tamar Valley is a voyage of modern indulgence and discovery of glorious history.

The Tamar Valley Wine Route is the oldest wine region in Tasmania and spreads from the Valley to Pipers River in the North and Relbia in the South. There’s more than 30 wineries within driving distance of each other, coupled with some spectacular scenery along the way. It’s a voyage of discovery from the rustic to the sophisticated, each vineyard with its own unique story – often to be told by the winemakers themselves, whose cool climate wines attract worldwide attention.

Cellar door tastings are a speciality of the Tamar Valley – so expect to be pampered, surprised and delighted by your visit to the Valley.
