This 15.8-mile bike tour from Queens Hotel gives you the opportunity to enjoy the vibrant city of Leeds and sample locally produced wines. From Queens Hotel and onto the River Aire towpath, you will find yourself on a dedicated route that takes you through and past the likes of Royal Armouries Museum, Thwaite Mills and Temple Newsam House before diverting off the route to head west to Newsome Green and your stop at Leventhorpe Vineyard. Here begins the tasting of the prestigious wines followed by the explanation from the production to the bottle, while observing and touching on its long standing history. Leventhorpe is pretty basic as cellar doors go, but if you're interested in good English wine, intrigued by the thought of wine from Yorkshire, it's well worth your time. George and his wife Janet re-introduced commercial winegrowing to Yorkshire by establishing this five acre vineyard in 1985, and now produce award-winning Yorkshire Appellation wines: mainly whites, with limited amounts of sparkling and red wines. From there, it's all about one of the greatest historic estates in England as you worm your way through 1500 acres of parkland, woodland and farmland, surrounding Temple Newsam House. Temple Newsam Park Golf Course is just around the corner, which you'll pass through before going through Cross Green, Saxton Gardens and back to Queens Hotel to finish. With gentle gradients and smooth surfaces along the length of the route, you'll find the route ideal if you want an easy day's pedaling, or if you have small children.
