Duration: 7.5 hours

Sete Cidades is a charming civil parish nestled within the caldera of the dormant Sete Cidades volcano, one of the largest volcanic formations in the Azores. Here lies one of the largest azorean lagoons where the views seem like out of a fairytale, also know as the twin lakes.

  • Start this tour by driving up to the caldera's wall through a inner road of the island, stop by a viewpoint to see both north and south coastlines and the vast hills and volcanic formations along São Miguel.

  • Check the old roman style aqueaducts that were used to carry fresh water among villages without access to tap water back in the day.

  • Dwelve into a secluded lagoon surrounded by trees, the Lagoa do Canário can be contemplated only from a few access points. Take a moderate walk through this natural park up until a viewpoint where one can contemplate some of the valleys formed around the Sete Cidades lagoon and the lagoon itself.

  • Contemplate the whole vastness of Sete Cidades green and blue lagoons from the King's Viewpoint, learn about the history of the abandoned hotel that lies in ruins.

  • Descend into the caldera, contemplating the hydrangeas lush bushes along the way, discover the Santiago lagoon from up above. Reach the bridge that divides the blue and green lagoons and its mythological meaning.

  • Dwell around the village to check the local tea house or just one of the most simple and beautiful neo-gothic churches on the island.

  • Reach the top of a cliff on the westernmost point of São Miguel to appreciate the views of Mosteiros and its islets, learn about the story of the missing azorean island.

  • Descend into Mosteiros, a fajã formation, that compasses a vast coast of dark rock formations, a beach with an unique view of the Mosteiros islets.

Finish off this tour with a walk by the coastline tasting a local handmade sweet delicacy with the ocean breeze.
