About the activity

Operating from Ullapool Harbour in the northwest Highlands of Scotland, Shearwater cruises offer trips to Loch Broom and the Summer Isles.

Famed for their outstanding beauty, the Summer Isles are a collection of wonderful islands ranging in size from little more than rocks to the last inhabited island Tanera Mor. The isles and sea are home to numerous sea birds, seals, dolphins, porpoises, whales and eagles.

Ullapool is a great base for a highland holiday, a day trip from the towns and villages of Scotland, or a stop over whilst doing the NC500 route.

A trip to the Summer Isles is a must for all lovers of Highland scenery, wildlife, nature and history. Many of our passengers return again and again.

Important information

We want to ensure your trip with us is a great experience and offer the following tips to try to make things easy, enjoyable and fun for you.

Parking

There are traffic wardens in Ullapool during the summer. Please park where you have permission or use the Free Car Park at Latheron. Please allow time for parking, walking to the harbour and boarding - we can not delay departures.

Clothing

Even the warmest of days can change, especially at sea. Please wear (or bring) waterproof and warm clothing.

Food and Drink

We don't sell food or drink but do allow passengers to bring food and drink on trips - please keep the boat clear of rubbish when people are moving about.

Binoculars and Camera

We will do our best to find things of interest and wildlife but binoculars and good cameras will make the experience better. Afraid we have had to stop lending out binoculars as we lost some overboard.

Children

Kids are very welcome but please can they be accompanied by well-behaved adults...

Leaving Times

Please be on time as we cannot delay departure otherwise we lose time at sea or are late for the following trip.

Guaranteed Wildlife!

We do our best to find and show passengers what is out there but please always remember that we are dealing with wildlife and weather, seasons, food, etc. can mean they change location so please bring realistic expectations and we will do our best to achieve or even surpass them - if we can.

Cancellations

Sailings are dependent on weather and booking numbers - if we think we will have to cancel, we will do our best to notify you as soon as we can. If you are traveling from far away, it may be worth checking in advance if you have doubts. Please can you let us know if you cannot make it also - there may be people waiting to fill any spaces.

Seating

We have enough seating for a full trip of 30 passengers - some inside, some outside, some up top and some on the front. Different people will say different answers to what seats are best. The lower deck is slightly noisier as closest to the engines. Seating is offered on a first-come-first-served basis.
