The road opens like a map folded into cliffs as the minivan peels away from Reykjavík and heads northwest—mountain passes, gravel cuts and sudden views of the Arctic Ocean. On day one the group reaches Látrabjarg, where cliff faces rise more than 400 meters and puffins risk landing on ledges as wind dares you to lean closer.
