The Waimakariri is one of Canterbury’s largest and favourite rivers. The Waimakariri is a grade 1-2 river so is pretty mellow and perfect for the kids.
Flowing from the glacial mountains of the Arthurs Pass National park to then enter the ocean just north of Christchurch after traveling 151 kilometers. In Māori, Waimakariri has several meanings, one of which is “river of cold rushing water”.
Our Waimakariri day trip starts early in the Arthurs pass area and the trip covers 40kms of rafting on the river. The overall trip time on the river is around 5 hours starting at Gooseberry stream and finishing at Woodstock.
