Sunlight skitters off shallow channels while cormorants lift like punctuation marks; the marsh seems to have its own rhythm, and the boat answers it, skimming over peat and mud where the Everglades slow-flow meets the Atlantic rim.

The Everglades formed from slow-moving sheetflow off Lake Okeechobee; the region also has a long Seminole presence and a history of 20th-century drainage and restoration efforts.
The Everglades is the focus of ongoing restoration projects—avoid feeding wildlife, pack out trash, and follow captain guidance to minimize disturbance.
