Weekend Special: Paint-and-Sip at Painting With a Twist Lakewood

Weekend Special at Painting With a Twist in Lakewood offers a two-hour escape into color and conversation just off the Belmar promenade. Located at 7134 W Alaska Dr., Lakewood, Colorado, this guided paint-and-sip class turns blank canvases into keepsakes while an instructor walks the room through every stroke. The studio’s Inspiration Bar stocks wine, beer, and beverages; a $20 bottomless mimosa option is available for the class, and guests are advised to bring ID since BYOB is prohibited in Colorado. Inside, the room reads like a practical art workshop rather than a lecture hall—rows of easels, disposable palettes, buckets of brushes, and aprons waiting at each station. The format is deliberately inclusive: step-by-step instruction, short demos, and time to personalize a composition make it accessible to first-timers and steady painters alike. Expect a relaxed social energy—groups celebrating birthdays, pairs on a low-key date, and solo travelers who want to meet others. Free parking at the Belmar center makes arriving easy, and organizers suggest coming 15–20 minutes early to sign in, grab a drink, and settle into an apron. What sets this class apart from a typical evening out is the way the instruction breaks an intimidating process into tidy, repeatable moves. You leave not only with a finished painting but with a handful of techniques you can use again. The setting—situated in the Belmar retail and public-art corridor—also makes the studio a practical stop before supper or a walk around the nearby green spaces. The class’s urban edge means you can pair it with a meal at one of Belmar’s restaurants or an afternoon at nearby Lakewood trails. Practical details: the session runs approximately two hours; the address is 7134 W Alaska Dr., Lakewood, CO 80226; tip for participants: wear clothes you don’t mind speckling with paint or use the provided apron. Alcohol service is 21+ and regulated; the studio maintains a casual, friendly house policy and asks that you respect instructors and fellow guests. For travelers looking for a weather-proof, social, and creative alternative to hiking or sightseeing around Denver, this Weekend Special is a compact, memorable night that blends instruction, conviviality, and a take-home piece of art. Many groups book the Weekend Special as a way to kick off a weekend of outdoor activity: paint in the evening, paddle or hike nearby the next day. The format easily accommodates solo travelers who want to meet locals, and hosts often guide small customizations so your finished canvas reflects personal choices. Materials—canvas, paints, brushes, and step-by-step instruction—are provided, and staff will help mount or wrap canvases for travel.
