What to Expect:

Join plant nerd and naturalist, Ute Olsson, for a 1-hour foray to look for plants you might be interested in harvesting. Learn how to identify plants correctly, tell them apart from look-a-likes, where and when they grow, and discuss foraging etiquette.

Please note that we will only be collecting samples, not harvesting plants during our walk.

This bi-weekly walk repeats throughout the growing season at Government Peak Recreation Area.

Important notes:

  • We ask folks leave their 4-legged friends behind for this trip.
  • Little ones are welcome to join. You can expect to walk up to a mile during the course.
  • Our maximum class size is 10 attendees.

Cost:

  • $5 per person
  • Free for Adventure Club members

About Ute:

Ute Riesenkönig Olsson received a Master of Forestry from Duke University and a Master of Science in Ecological Studies from Colorado State University. She taught natural history to all ages at the Eagle River Nature Center for two decades before her retirement. Ute has a special interest in ethnobotany -- how humans have traditionally used plants in Alaska.

A note on flexibility:

The nature of adventuring outside requires some flexibility. We do our best to follow the schedule as outlined, but trail conditions, wildlife, etc. can all impact our plans. Please know if we need to shift plans your workshop coordinator will communicate with you in a timely manner. Safety is our priority and we use our best judgement when making trip adjustments.

Weather:

We rarely cancel due to inclement weather. Please make sure you have gear to adventure in the elements. If you need to borrow something, let us know! We have lots of extra supplies and are happy to loan items out if needed.
