Dive into the world of blacksmithing with this hands-on, 4-week course! No experience is needed as you learn essential techniques and safety practices while working with a coke-fired forge. Create and take home a unique project after each session, making this an unforgettable artistic journey for aspiring blacksmiths.
3 hours and 30 minutes per class over 4 weeks. Weekend intensives run over a full Saturday and Sunday.
No previous experience required. Students are given an overview of the practice including the primary tools, safety precautions and creative possibilities. They are taught how to light and manage a coke fired forge and will be introduced to some of the fundamental techniques (drawing out, bending, twisting). Take home one completed project after each session.
Minimum age for students is 12 and under 15’s need to be accompanied by an adult, also enrolled in the course.
Ensure you wear long sleeves and closed-toe shoes to stay safe around hot metals and sparks.
Getting there 15 minutes early allows you to settle in and prepare for the session.
Pay close attention to the instructor’s safety guidelines during each session.
Instructors are happy to share tips—don’t hesitate to ask about techniques or tools.
