Old West Ghost Town, Gold Mine and Scenic Steam Boat Ride
Spend a day in the Old West! A short drive from the city lies the infamous Apache Trail. The original route was used by the Apache Tribe for travel through the harsh Sonoran Desert along the Superstition Mountains. Settlers expanded the footpath in the late 1800’s in prospect of mining gold and other precious metals. The area was incorporated in 1892 and dubbed Goldfield Goldmine. This “gold rush” of a town went as quick as it came. After only 5 short years of mining, the gold vein the miners were chasing had run dry. During the tour you will be able to take a tour INSIDE the once prosperous Goldfield Goldmine, get your “rattlesnakes” in at Lulu’s Bordello or the reptile exhibit, have a cold drink and lunch among the cowboy’s at “Mammoth Steakhouse and Saloon”, and experiences many more attractions of the Old West! In addition, you will be treated to a scenic steamboat cruise on Canyon Lake. The famous, “Dolly Steamboat”, will navigate a 6-mile journey along the 1,300ft. volcanic walls surrounding the lake during which time there may be opportunities to see bald eagles, bighorn sheep, red-tailed hawks, and many other desert animals.
