About This Adventure

Embark on an unforgettable journey through the Ballard Locks with a certified instructor, mastering the art of navigating between freshwater and saltwater. Experience hands-on learning as you switch roles between Skipper and Crew, gaining unique insights into lock transit. This adventure promises excitement and valuable skills on the water.

Come take the helm and learn from a US Sailing (or Powerboating if on a Powerboat) Certified Instructor and expert Lock's Navigator to experience the nuances of inbound and outbound transit to and from the freshwater to saltwater, utilizing the Ballard (Hiram M. Chittenden) Locks.

During this course, you will have the opportunity to rotate between Skipper and Crew upon entering and exiting the Small Locks as well as the Large Locks (disclaimer, Windworks cannot guarantee the opportunity to transit through both big/small locks due to unforeseen variables the Army Corps of Engineering team who manage the locks may encounter. Windworks will make every reasonable effort to provide the opportunity to experience going through both locks, however, it may be likely that the day will permit the sole transit through the Small Locks).

Tipping: Tipping your instructor is customary within the industry, typically ranging from 10% to 20% of the course fee, and it is greatly valued and acknowledged! If you appreciate your Instructor's approach, demeanor and efforts, make it known!
