Whether you are new to power-boating or would like to increase your confidence in docking and maneuvering in close quarters, this course is for you. Boat Control On-Water Training Course Modules are designed to teach boat handling skills to recreational boaters or personnel hired to operate a vessel used in marine patrol. Taught by a NSBC Certified Instructor, the course will progress from safety gear and the pre-launch checklist to docking and refueling in close quarters; each maneuver is repeated advancing from idle speed to displacement mode, then planing mode.

Module 001, Introduction to Powerboating Includes:

  • Pre-Launch / Pre-Departure
  • Operating the vessel at idle speed
  • Intro to Boaters Eye
  • Standard and Urgency Stops
  • Weathervane Technique
  • Ferrying with the current and wind
  • Return or Leaving Dock

Module 002, Precision Docking and Boat Handling Includes:

  • Pre-Launch
  • 180* Turn-Around or “Pivot Turn”
  • Docking Alongside a Pier
  • Departing a Pier
  • Proper Lookout

Module 003, Open Water Boat Handling Includes:

  • Boat Trim
  • Stop Lanyard
  • Operating in Displacement mode
  • Ferrying in Displacement mode
  • Holding station
  • Shoreline Landings

Module 004, Open Water Advanced Maneuvering Includes:

  • Recognizing Plow Mode
  • Operating in Planning mode
  • Avoidance Turns
  • Emergency Stops
  • Man Overboard procedures
