About Group Tours

This professionally crewed sailing excursion begins with a warm welcome and cold drinks aboard our classic 42 foot sailing ketch, Avalon. Once we set sail, you'll take in breathtaking views of Vieques' stunning Caribbean coastline and virgin landscape before we grab our mooring at a remote tropical coral reef for open water snorkeling. Would you like to take the helm and sail? Let us know! As you work up an appetite snorkeling, tapas are prepared on board with seasonal, locally sourced ingredients. After a bit more relaxing, floating, and soaking up the sun, the return sail will have you wondering how four hours can go by so quickly!

We are an eco-tour, and one of our focuses is on conservation and protection of the marine ecosystem. For group half day tours, we combine groups whenever possible in order to conserve fuel and resources and have an even smaller impact on the local mangrove and coral reef ecosystems. We may contact you to ask if you are able to join another group's boat. If you do not wish to be combined with another group, booking a private charter ensures that you have the boat to yourselves!

About Private Tours

Are you an avid snorkeler who wants to see it all? A beginner who wants to take it slow? Would you prefer an excursion that's exclusively sailing? Looking for something special or romantic? Book a private tour, and we'll customize it just for you!

No matter what you choose to do on your private tour, you'll have the boat to yourselves!

When it comes to snorkeling, on group charters our reef guides must snorkel at a pace that works for all of our guests, which means taking our time if we have beginners with us. If you and your group are avid snorkelers who want to get right down to business, snorkel as long as possible, and see special areas of the reef we can only take very experienced snorkelers, we recommend booking a private tour! We have lots to show you! Likewise, if you are a beginner who wants to take it super slow, a private tour is best! This way we can snorkel at a pace that works for you, and show you our favorite spots! Though we do recommend that ALL guests have snorkeling experience before coming on one of our open water adventure tours, nobody walks the plank! If the snorkeling portion isn't for you, simply enjoy your private sailboat in the Caribbean with a pair of shades and a drink in your hand!

PLEASE NOTE: Due to Covid-19 restrictions, group charters at individual seat prices may be limited. If you do not see the availability you are looking for, give us a call at 787.435.4858 to inquire!

Skill Level / Mobility

  • You must be a strong swimmer in order to snorkel in open water.
  • This is an intermediate level tour, and excellent mobility is required. Please read on for details, and call us with any questions!
  • All of our snorkeling tours take place on exclusive, remote, open water coral reefs only accessible by boat.
  • Open water snorkeling is different from shore snorkeling: at no time during our tour will there be a place to stand up or touch the bottom, and open water tends to have a bit more current. Sometimes this experience can be difficult for first time snorkelers, inexperienced snorkelers, or snorkelers who haven't snorkeled in a while. We recommend that guests who haven't snorkeled recently practice using snorkeling gear in shallow water before coming on one of our open water tours. We've had first timers take to it right away, but it's always best to practice!
  • However, keep in mind that nobody walks the plank! If you don't want to snorkel, or you try the snorkeling portion and decide it isn't for you, simply have a swim in the Caribbean and enjoy unlimited drinks, snacks, and sunshine aboard our classic sailboat in the Caribbean! Jump in and swim by the boat, get a tan on the foredeck, and soak up some sun!
  • We do have inflatable float vests for guests who would like that extra bit of flotation while snorkeling, but good swimming skills are required for our snorkeling tours.
  • Our tours include real ocean sailing aboard a classic monohull sailboat. Get ready to heel when we're tacking!
  • Boarding will take place from a dinghy/tender, up a vertical 4 foot ladder to the deck of the larger sailboat. This can be quite difficult for those with a mobility impairment. If you have ANY mobility or balance concerns, please call before booking so that we can be sure you are fully informed of the physical requirements necessary to board. This way, you may make an educated decision to book one of our adventure tours. If you arrive on the day of your tour and our captain determines that it is unsafe for you to attempt to board the vessel, you will be turned away for your safety, without refund.

Where to Meet Us

  • All of our tours set sail from the beautiful, remote island of Vieques, Puerto Rico
  • Our booking agent will email the address and directions to your pickup spot after you have booked.
  • From November to June, you must have your OWN VEHICLE to get to our location, as taxis don't come out this far! In summer and fall, a taxi will do.

What to Bring

  • Beach Towel
  • Non-aerosol Reef Safe Sunscreen (a rash guard or swim shirt is even better!)
