You can also book a semi-private lesson when you are by yourself – we will try to accommodate you with someone else. However, if no one else joins you, you might have to take a private or a group lesson (if available) instead.

Our instructors are highly trained and experienced professionals who love what they do.

All Surf Hawai’i Surf School instructors are certified lifeguards, CPR and AED certified, and experienced surfers.

CHOOSE THE BEST SURF LESSON FOR YOU

At Surf Hawai’i – Surf School, your surf lesson is tailored to your individual skill level (beginner, intermediate or advanced). Be ready to have a blast on the North Shore! Our lessons include all the supplies you need – surfboards, leashes, and rash guards.

Beginner

  • Your first class starts with a 20-minute extensive land training including a surf ethics lesson. After that… it’s time to get wet! You’ll paddle out with your surf instructor, who will be in the water with you during the lesson. Having a professional certified surf instructor in the water guiding you will bring you that memorable feeling that only a surfer can describe as you glide down your first wave. You never forget that moment! Once you stand up on your board for the first time, you will finally understand why surfers are so stoked.

Intermediate

  • Once you both paddle out together, your instructor will help you to improve your wave judgment, your positioning and timing to catch waves, as well as your form riding the wave.

Advanced

  • Prepare yourself to be taken to far and impressive spots that you never knew existed! For advanced surfers, your instructor will take you to the outside breaks – some of them are secret spots! – to surf larger and less crowded waves. You will enhance your surf techniques, maneuverability and wave selection. The learning process never stops! You may also be able to experience tow-in surfing, which will take your surfing to the next level. Tow in surfing requires a bit of wakeboarding experience, or wake surfing behind a boat. We can take you to the outer reefs on our jet skis equipped with proper tow-in gear once you have completed the required ocean safety courses for tow-in surfing. Don’t have your ocean safety certification? We can help you with your certification.
