About

Our Rescues and Recoveries: Beyond the Basics class is meant to broaden your toolkit to rescue yourself and others in a variety of situations that go beyond the basics. We will cover rescues in a flat water environment, within rocks and potentially waves. Our goal is to give you a diverse enough skill set to comfortably sea kayak outside of protected waters, venturing into coastal environments with the knowledge to handle those adventures with the appropriate rescue skills. Our optimal condition set for this class is waves less than 2 feet with current around 1 knot, with minimal break within rocks.

A sampling of the course content includes:

  • Curl/Cleopatras Needle/flooded hatch rescue
  • Scoop rescue
  • Scramble/ladder rescue
  • Use of a tow strap
  • Bow/stern/toggle swimmer carries
  • Extracting a kayaker from rocky environments
