About

Departing Carnarvon, this 2 hour scenic helicopter flight takes you north across the picturesque Rio Tinto Dampier Salt Mine and onwards to the majestic colours of Lake MacLeod.

Lake MacLeod is a vast wetland system home to one of the largest in-land mangrove communities in the world. The westernmost lake in Australia the wetlands are replenished by a unique karst system, which flushes the ocean tides of the Indian Ocean through subterranean channels underneath the lake. These channels thrust seawater up vertical shafts, sinkholes and other surface vents within the lake.

A photographer's dream this lake is filled with colour and abstract scenery. In 2020 'Blue Dragon' by Steven Manolakis was shortlisted for the 2020 Australian Geographic Nature Photographer of the Year competition.
