Embark on a thrilling 5-day sailing expedition along Western Australia's stunning coast aboard the Queimarla. As part of the crew, you'll learn essential sailing skills, explore remote islands, and enjoy activities like swimming and fishing. Gain internationally recognized certifications while creating unforgettable memories in the breathtaking Indian Ocean.
5 Day Course (Whole 5 Days & 5 nights)
You will be part of the working crew, participating in all the skills you need to become a competent yacht person. You will be standing watches, cooking at sea, night sailing and exploring remote coastlines and beautiful islands. This is not a cruise, this is an expedition.
You will help plan the trip, study the weather, set the sails and steer the vessel. We will make the yacht go where we want it to go. Exploring, interacting with nature, watching sunsets at sea, trawling for fish and frolicking in the beautiful Indian Ocean.
You will learn and practise all the skills you need to be able to do this safely on your own, and you will earn an internationally recognised IYT certificate that will allow you to charter yachts around the world.
We will also fit in plenty of adventure time, including swimming, snorkelling, fishing, exploring and friendship.
This is a great adventure covering all the skills you need to be able to do this for yourself.
Places are limited, there are only 6 crew places per voyage.
Our 45 foot (13.85m) Kurt Hughes designed catamaran Queimarla is a performance sailing machine, and you will experience exhilarating sailing in a world circling sailing vessel that is fully certified by Australian Maritime Safety Authority. Your captain/instructor is a fully qualified professional skipper (Master class 4) with over 35 years sailing experience. Few people know the coast as well as Captain Paul.

(If you wish to earn the IYT Internationally recognised Flotilla Skippers Ticket certificate add $150, or Extra ICC Certification add $150 or Short Range Radio Operators Certificate add $285)
This covers the boat and all the equipment onboard (dinghy, snorkelling equipment, fishing equipment, Stand up paddle boards and all safety equipment.) All your meals, your instructor, and your IYT Sailing certificates.
(We require a 20% deposit to secure a spot, and the rest of the funds paid one month prior to the start date.)
You are fully insured whilst onboard, however, we strongly recommend travel insurance to cover you for any unforeseen complications. Once on board the catamaran you are fully covered by our insurance. Travel insurance is about $50
There are 3 courses that can be completed during a 5-day course. The one you study will depend on your experience and your training needs.
Option 1. International Crew Certificates • This course has NO prerequisites. • Minimum age 14 • This course is often chosen if candidates require less training therefore allowing more time for relaxing and enjoying the environment. (Less work more play) • This is a good introductory level.
Option 2. International Flotilla Skipper You must hold a Marine Radio licence before the issue of this certificate. (This can be done on board during your course. • Minimum age 16 years old. • This is a high-level training course with the aim of skilling you to be able to take command of a vessel up to 24m. • This certificate will allow you to charter yachts.
Option 3 International Bareboat Skipper • VHF radio licence required. • Must have completed 200 nm and 10 days at sea (By the end of the course) to qualify for this qualification. • This qualification can be converted to an ICC certificate to use for chartering yachts in Europe. This is a high-level training course that will convert you from an amateur sailor to operating at a professional level.
Also, we issue you the much sort after ICC certificate We also assess you for your VHF radio licence. This is a legal requirement if you wish to operate a marine radio and a prerequisite for any of the IYT certificates.
