About This Adventure

Duration

2 hours

Sail out of Rockland Harbor past the breakwater lighthouse on your way to Penobscot Bay and the rugged coastal islands.

Great sailing, wildlife viewing, lighthouse close-ups and some fun info about coastal Maine ecology and history.

About

Departing Rockland Harbor from Middle Pier, this is our classic coastal Maine day trip. We will give you a close-up of Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, and sail along the beautiful coastline watching for seals, porpoises, bald eagles as well as Maine's historic Windjammer fleet. Every trip we set sail, and you are welcome to lend a hand! Monday morning is often a good time to watch the schooners as they sail out of the harbor for their week long cruises.

  • 10am morning trip: usually the calmest trip of the day. It is often cooler and the wind is light. This trip is great for families with small children as they can move around more and have a more stable platform. Calm winds and waves make for the best wildlife viewing.

  • 1pm midday trip: your best chance to catch a stronger breeze and get an adventurous sailing experience. When the boat is moving faster, we can travel farther and often sail past Monroe Island to the deeper waters of outer Penobscot Bay. We always try to give everyone who would like to steer the boat a chance.

  • 4pm afternoon trip: usually starts with a breeze and calms down over the course of the sail, making for a nice relaxing way to get in a little sailing and wind down from a fun day of exploring.

  • 6:30-7 pm sunset (depending on the season): the wind is often calm. This trip is perfect for those who want to relax, have a drink and watch a beautiful sunset. It is generally cool so a jacket is recommended.

All sails are BYOB, however we ask that you imbibe responsibly. The boat is often moving and we want to make sure we are keeping you safe! Please avoid glass as much as possible. Feel free to bring a snack.

Please Note:

It is recommended to book your sail in advance, however we also take cash and card at the dock when there is availability. Please visit our ticket booth, or ask one of the crew for assistance in making your booking!

All passengers, including small children count towards our strict passenger limit and need a ticket in order to sail.
