The guide sends you east through the oldest blocks of Manhattan; the pavement underfoot remembers merchants and markets while the skyline frames a modern edge.

Small snacks are generally permitted, but follow zoo rules — do not feed the animals and dispose of waste in designated bins.
Lower Manhattan grew from a 17th-century Dutch settlement and later dense 19th-century immigrant quarters; Central Park was created in the mid-19th century by Olmsted and Vaux as a public green space.
Central Park Zoo participates in species education and conservation programs; follow posted rules, stay on paths, and avoid feeding wildlife to minimize impact.
