São Brás de Alportel
We offer very unique tours on our farm in the Serra do Caldeirão, one being walking with goats and a goat herder in the Algarve mountainside and a local cheese, wine and honey tasting.
Here you can discover what you could call the ‘real Portugal’.
The beauty of the countryside is immense with wildflowers and spectacular views and you can still find shepherds herding their sheep (and goats) and subsistence farmers working hard on their land to grow the food they need.
After booking we will send all the details of the reservation, as well as the location of the farm and the contact of the farmer.
If you wish to propose another day or time for the experience, send us a message and we will do our best to reschedule, or we can include one more experience for all day.
The path winds through uneven terrain with rocks and dirt; supportive footwear keeps you safe.
Weather in the Algarve can be hot and sunny; a hat and sunscreen are recommended for comfort.
Keep a reasonable distance from the animals to avoid startling them during the walk.
The farm is in a rural area; arranging private transport or car rental is advisable as it’s not served by public transit.
Shepherding and subsistence farming have shaped the Serra do Caldeirão landscape for centuries, reflecting Portugal’s enduring rural traditions.
The tours support local farmers and promote responsible tourism, helping preserve delicate ecosystems and traditional agricultural practices.
Provides stability on the varied terrain encountered during the goat herder walk.
Protects against strong Algarve sun during midday hours.
