You drop into cool, dim air and the light behind you snaps shut. For the next three hours you move with the cave’s pace: float under low roofs where glow worms pinprick the dark, scramble around limestone ledges, and launch off small cascades into a current that seems to urge you forward. The Ruakuri underground river is alive — it nudges, guides and challenges in equal measure.
