The river opens before you like a dark ribbon through green; you push off in a tandem kayak and the current takes the weight of the day. Paddle strokes fall into a steady rhythm as cliffs and wet leaves close in and native birds call from the understory. After two miles upriver the motor giveway ends and the jungle narrows — this is Wailua, a stretch of Kauai that has been traveled by voyagers and ali‘i for centuries.

Moderate — you should be comfortable paddling for sustained periods and hiking unpaved, sometimes muddy trails.
Tandem kayaks, paddles, dry bags, back rests, a fresh handmade turkey sandwich (with options on request), fruit, and water are included.
You’ll paddle about 2 miles each way (4 miles round trip) and hike roughly 1.5 miles each way (3 miles round trip) to Secret Falls.
Participants must be 5–70 years old and have a moderate fitness level; the trip is not recommended for pregnant travelers or those with serious back, heart, or recent surgical issues.
