You step off the jeep where the asphalt ends and the forest leans in—humidity clings to the hair on your forearms, and a narrow trail threads uphill through ferns and stands of ebony teak. The path rises steadily for about three hours, the jungle seeming to watch as you pass; clouds spool around ridgelines and the air cools as you climb to roughly 1,200 meters.

Moderately fit — able to hike 3 hours uphill with a daypack and manage uneven terrain at altitude.
Expect a moderate hike of about 2.5–3.5 hours uphill from Denge on uneven, sometimes steep trails; basic hiking fitness is recommended.
Overnight is in one of the traditional communal mbaru niang houses with basic sleeping arrangements; expect shared spaces and simple facilities.
Physically active children and healthy older adults who can manage sustained uphill walking may do well, but it’s not recommended for people with serious spinal, heart, or pregnancy-related conditions.
No special permits are required beyond entrance fees included in the tour; check routine travel vaccinations for Indonesia and consider mosquito protection.
