We start our tour visiting Fira, the economic, political, and commercial center of the island. Fira is a town of white-washed houses built on the edge of the 400 meters high caldera. Do not miss the chance to discover the heart of the city. You can take the opportunity to do some shopping or just enjoy the views until our departure to Akrotiri.
Akrotiri is a small fishing village but the fact that such a spectacle civilization had been developed here 3.600 years ago makes it a special destination and a definite must-see. The ancient city of Akrotiri is one of the most important archaeological discoveries in the Eastern Mediterranean. The eruption ( 1600 B.C.) covered with lava the traditional city and preserved it in an excellent condition. The settlement that we will visit has been suggested as a possible inspiration for Plato's story of Atlantis.
