History

Edinburgh’s Old Town grew from a medieval burgh around the Royal Mile; the stretch links Edinburgh Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse and holds layers of civic, religious and Jacobite history relevant to Outlander’s setting.

Conservation

When visiting in person, stick to marked paths and respect private property in narrow closes; virtual tours reduce foot traffic pressure on sensitive historic sites.
