You step onto the damp path and the air is full of spray — the falls are already making themselves known before you see them. A guide points you toward a chasm where water hurls itself over basalt lipways; the river seems to dare you to keep up as afternoon light turns mist into a moving veil.

Infants are allowed but must sit on an adult’s lap during transport and some activities; notify the operator of any young children when booking.
High water (peak spray) occurs around March–May; clearer viewing with lower spray is often from August–November. Both have different appeals: dramatic flow versus unobstructed viewpoints.
The falls were named Victoria Falls by David Livingstone in 1855; indigenous Tonga people call it Mosi-oa-Tunya, meaning "The Smoke That Thunders."
Water flow varies seasonally and is affected by upstream use; stay on designated paths, avoid feeding wildlife and support local guides and craft vendors to benefit community conservation.
