Butchart Gardens grew from a converted limestone quarry in the early 1900s and became an iconic horticultural site; Victoria’s downtown reflects late‑19th and early‑20th century coastal commerce and garden culture.
The gardens operate seasonal plant programs and encourage visitors to stay on paths; local conservation efforts focus on protecting coastal habitats and minimizing visitor impact.
