The coach eases out of Paris and, after roughly an hour through suburban boulevards, the palace rises across the Place d'Armes — stone and gold catching the light like a page of court history. Inside, a guide leads a compact group through state apartments and the Hall of Mirrors, where the mirrors themselves seem to measure the scale of royal ambition. Outside, the formal geometry of André Le Nôtre’s gardens stretches to the Grand Canal, fountains daring you to linger at the Apollo and Latona displays.
