A cold wind off the fjord lifts silver from the water as the group assembles on the quay; behind them, brick and glass of central Oslo fade to maritime sky. In three measured hours instructors move a line of beginners from tentative strokes to confident, controlled paddling. The course opens the city shoreline—the rock-strewn skerries, shallow bays, and ridged gneiss bedrock carved by ice—and asks students to read currents, feel the paddle, and trust their kit.
