Dusk falls over the Ganges and the river catches the last light; oil lamps appear like small beacons along stone steps, and the city’s hum collects at the water’s edge. A private 4WD drops travelers at the ghats, where the Ganga Aarti—an hour-long ritual of fire, chant, and brass—begins with priests synchronizing their movements and the river reflecting every motion.
