Embark on a captivating adventure with Island Explorer Dolphin and Nature Tours, where you’ll explore the stunning Broad Creek salt marshes and the elusive "Vanishing Island™." Experience the thrill of strolling sandy shores, searching for unique seashells and marine life, all while enjoying the beauty of nature in a serene setting.
Operated by Island Explorer Dolphin and Nature Tours at 101 Marshland Road. This is our most popular tour taking you through the Broad Creek salt marshes, across the Calibogue Sound, and all the way to the remote "Vanishing Island™" which is exposed for less than an hour each day at low tide. You'll step off the boat and stroll the sand bars and shallow waters looking for sand dollars and shells. You might see horseshoe crabs, whelks, and other sea life that you won't see on the beaches of Hilton Head.
The Vanishing Island appears only at low tide, so plan your visit accordingly to maximize your time on the sandbar.
Expect to walk on wet sand and shallow tidal pools; water shoes or sandals with good grip are recommended.
Exposure is high on the open marsh and sandbar; use sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses for comfort and safety.
Avoid disturbing nesting birds and delicate marine organisms along the shoreline during your walk.
Broad Creek’s salt marshes have been vital to local indigenous cultures and saltwater fishing industries for centuries.
The area is protected to preserve critical habitats for migratory birds and nursery grounds for marine life, encouraging responsible tourism practices.
Protects your feet from sharp shells and slippery sand during the tidal walk.
