Descend from Amalfi’s sunlit terraces into Valle delle Ferriere, a cool gorge of waterfalls, ferns and old paper-mill ruins. This guided 6 km trek blends natural drama with local history and practical trail-side tips.
You step off the coastal road into a different climate: the sea's salt and glare give way to a cool, green corridor where ferns drape the rock and water insists on attention. The trailhead in Pontone begins by the Blue Bar, and within minutes the town's clamor is replaced by the hiss of streams and the measured fall of cascades. The Valle delle Ferriere squeezes the Lattari Mountains into a narrow, mossy gorge—six kilometers of forested track, iron footbridges, old stone steps and sudden clearings that frame waterfalls like living sculptures.

The trail includes wet rock, wooden boardwalks and iron bridges—waterproof shoes with good tread are essential.
Poles help steady you on slippery descents and on stone steps common in the gorge.
Mornings offer cooler temperatures and fewer people; shortly after rain the waterfalls are at their most impressive but take extra care.
Stay on marked paths to protect sensitive vegetation and historic mill ruins; take all litter out with you.
Valle delle Ferriere once powered small paper and charcoal industries; you’ll pass stone relics and channels that show how water drove local craft.
The reserve protects rare humid-forest vegetation on the Amalfi slopes; visitors are asked to stay on trails to prevent erosion and protect delicate plant communities.
Provide traction and protect feet from wet rock and stream splashes.
Keeps you dry in the valley’s humid microclimate and sudden showers.
