The light is flat at first, then the desert claims color—ochres deepen, salt-crusted ridges throw long shadows and the Great Dune throws a silhouette against a cobalt sky. On this late-afternoon circuit from San Pedro de Atacama you drive past the Three Marias, thread between salt mountains sculpted by wind, and climb to Mirador de Kari where the valley yawns below and the sun makes a slow, dramatic exit.
