Keppel & Kismet Studio in Baltimore, Maryland hosts a Valentines Wood Sign Workshop that turns a night out into a tactile, creative experience. For three hours participants choose a design at registration, then stain, paint, and assemble a personalized wooden sign under guided instruction. Each ticket includes one glass of wine or an alcohol‑free beverage plus Valentine candy, and core materials are provided so you can focus on design and technique.
The studio space at Keppel & Kismet Studio is arranged like a small maker shop: solid workbenches, paint stations, drying racks, and an assembly table. Key features of the session include multiple board styles, a staining station that highlights grain and knots, paint colors and stencils for lettering, and hardware for mounting so your sign is ready to hang when you leave.
This class emphasizes technique more than power tools; sanding, staining, layering paint, and applying hardware are taught step‑by‑step, making the workshop approachable for beginners while still useful to people with some DIY experience. The finished sign is a tangible keepsake and also a lesson in basic finishing: how to pick a stain tone for a wood species, how to build contrast with paint layers, and how to protect the surface for long life.
Keppel & Kismet’s Valentines Wood Sign Workshop also connects to Baltimore’s active maker and small‑business scene. Though the class takes place indoors, pairing it with a stroll through nearby commercial corridors or an evening at a neighborhood restaurant makes a full creative night out. Pickup times account for drying and finishing—participants receive a workshop‑day coupon to shop in‑store or apply toward a future class.
Practical notes: the minimum age is 21, sessions last about three hours, and group sizes vary by date. Because materials are included, travel light but bring a small bag for your finished piece. Arrive a few minutes early to settle in and choose your design at registration.
Who should book this: couples looking for a hands‑on date night, friends celebrating an occasion, or visitors wanting a locally crafted souvenir. Keppel & Kismet Studio’s Valentines workshop is practical, social, and rewarding—a small, focused experience that delivers a finished object and a new set of basic skills.
If you are visiting Baltimore, consider scheduling the workshop on a day when local galleries or craft markets are open; many makers in the area show work on weekends. The in‑studio coupon makes it easy to pick up additional supplies or a small gift, and instructors often share pointers that translate to at‑home projects. The experience balances instruction with creative freedom—the result is both a decorative sign and a practical introduction to finishing techniques you can use again. Book early—spaces fill for Valentine nights regularly.
